The Barrow Mansion The Barrow Mansion Development Corporation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and care of this historic residence, built in 1837. The building serves as the home of several non profit service organizations and leases space in it's unique rooms for meetings and events. There have been substantial renovations to the building, including the installation of an elevator, and air conditioning. The Attic's theatre space has been painted and restored to it's former elegance, as well as the room that we use as our lobby. Please join us and support this wonderful work! An Introduction to the Barrow Mansion This beautiful building was completed in 1837 as the home of Dr. William Barrow and his wife, Eliza Brower Barrow. Dr. Barrow was a prominent physician in New York City and one of the founders of the Provident Savings Bank. Eliza Barrow was the sister-in-law of Cornelius Van Vorst. During the lifetime of the Barrows and Van Vorsts, the Van Vorst farm was developed and is now downtown Jersey City. The mission of the BMDC is to preserve the historic Barrow Mansion and to promote its use as a center for community service. The mansion is a designated landmark on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Described by the eminent architectural historian, the late Henry Russel Hitchcock as "..an architectural monument of great distinction.
